The Batesville United Methodist Church was formed the first Protestant Church in Batesville. In 1845 a one acre plot was purchased on South Mulberry for a graveyard and church for the sum of $3.00. In 1871 the original church was built. When it was outgrown a larger place of worship was built in 1889 on S. Park Avenue. The cemetery still remains today on South Mulberry. Services were held in German until 1918 when the official board resolved to discontinue services in German since the outbreak of WWI. In 1934 the English Church was moved to its present location from S. Park and Catherine and attached to the larger brick church
